This is where the raw ideas get generated and it's a numbers game at this point. The more ideas there are to work with, the greater the chance of finding the gem later on in the process so at this point no idea is a bad idea. There are many tools out there for generating ideas but we use a few that we've proven work time and again in the real world.

- Customer-driven: Putting yourself in your customer's shoes to see innovation would benefit them, combined with listening to what your existing customers are saying
- Capability-driven: Stretching what you currently do in new directions to look for new capabilities you could create
- Market-driven: Copying & adapting what's already available in your market and other markets to your particular needs
- Random: Throwing in some wild-card ideas generated from unlikely sources to complete the picture
- Validate Ideas
- Score: Using a simple but effective scoring mechanism to allow both all stake
- Filter: Positioning the ideas on a value map in order to rank them based on what's important to your organisation and filter out those less promising ones
